Israel-based football club Beitar Jerusalem says it wants to add “Trump” to the team’s name, the Associated Press has reported.

On Sunday, the club’s social media accounts announced: “from now on will be called ‘Beitar Trump Jerusalem.’”

The proposal was made by the club’s leadership just one day ahead of a new US Embassy being inaugurated in Jerusalem.

US president Donald Trump had started a campaign to relocate the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalemm whose eastern quarter is claimed by Palestinians as their future capital.

“President Trump has shown courage, and true love of the Israeli people and their capital,” Beitar’s president was quoted as saying.

Beitar is placed second in the Israeli league with one game left, and has qualified for next season’s Europa League.
