Manoj Sarkar won the gold medal at the fourth Turkish Para-badminton International Championship in Konya, Turkey on Sunday.
Sarkar, in the men’s singles SL3 event beat Daishuke Fujihara 21-17, 17-21, 21-17. The world’s No 1 player in the category took 52 minutes to win the three-setter. Players with disabilities in one or both lower limbs and poor walking/running balance compete in the SL3 event.
He also clinched a bronze medal in the men’s doubles SL3 event.
His compatriot Suhas LY clinched the silver medal after finishing as a runner-up in the men’s singles SL4 event (wherein the player could have impairment in one or both lower limbs and minimal impairment in walking/running balance).
So far, Sarkar, the shuttler from Uttarakhand, has won more than 25 medals on the international stage (notably, a gold at the 2013 BWF World Para-Badminton Championships) and 20 at the national level.
