Ankita Raina made up for the disappointment of losing in the quarter-final stage of the singles event by bagging with doubles gold with Great Britain’s Harriet Dart in the $60,000 ITF Women’s tennis tournament in Luan, China.
The third seeds defeated local pair of Fangzhou Liu and Fang Ying Xun 6-3, 6-3. Raina had lost to Xun in the singles quarter-finals.
In the $15,000 event in Cairo, India’s challenge came to an end after third seed Riya Bhatia went down 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 against eighth seed Lamis Alhussein Abdel Aziz of Egypt in the singles quarter-finals while no Indian managed to cross the semi-final hurdle in the doubles event.
In the last four round, Muskan Gupta and Saumya Vij went down 6-0, 6-1 against top seeds Sandra Samir and Ola Abou Zekry while second seeds Bhatia and her US partner Shelby Talcott were no match to Aziz and Maria Patrascu of Canada in their 6-3, 6-3 defeat.
