Applause Entertainment will produce a 10-part political drama directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the company announced on Friday. Titled Mayanagari #CityOfDreams, the digital series will revolve around the upheaval in a Mumbai political family after an assassination attempt on one of its members.
Atul Kulkarni will play Ameya Rao Gaikwad, a member of the family and the chief of a political party, while Sachin Pilgaonkar has been cast as Chief Minister Jagdish Gurav. Other cast members include Priya Bapat, Eijaz Khan and Siddharth Chandekar. According to the press release, Mayanagari #City of Dreams is a “story of power, corruption and deceit, which affects the three strata of Mumbai’s societal structure - the poor, the middle-class and the rich”.
“As a director, I’ve always dabbled in new genres and directing Mayanagari #CityOfDreams was exhilarating,” Kukunoor said. “It’s a story that explores Mumbai’s political landscape and deals with extremes that exist within the city.”
Applause Entertainment CEO Sameer Nair said that the story demanded a strong cast. “Every actor connects to the role and is very excited to play his/her respective parts,” he said .”We are sure that the audience will be surprised to see their favourite actors in this never-seen-before avatar.”
