Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was on Thursday granted a three-day parole to attend the wedding of his son Tej Pratap Yadav on Saturday, PTI reported, quoting Jharkhand Inspector General (Prison) Harsh Mangla. It is not yet clear when his parole period starts. He had requested for a five-day parole starting May 10.

On Wednesday, Mangla had refuted reports that his request had been accepted and had said a final decision was likely by Thursday. Lalu Yadav is serving a prison term in Ranchi after a court found him guilty in several fodder scam cases.

Tej Pratap Yadav, the older of Lalu Yadav’s two sons, was a minister in the state Cabinet and remains a party legislator. He will marry Aishwarya Rai, the eldest daughter of RJD leader Chandrika Prasad Rai, on May 12 in Patna.

“We are happy that our leader has got parole to attend the marriage ceremony but I would also like to ask why it has been given only for three-days?” party MLA Shakti Yadav told The Hindu. “It seems like political vendetta by the Bharatiya Janata Party government.”

The former Bihar chief minister was undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi until April 30, when he was discharged and sent back to Ranchi Medical College. He had claimed there was a conspiracy against him and that he was not well enough to be shifted. He had said it was a conspiracy to worsen his health.
