Danny Denzongpa takes centrestage in the trailer of Bioscopewala, Deb Medhekar’s modern-day adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s 1892 short story Kabuliwala.

In Bioscopewala, Mini Basu (Geetanjali Thapa) seeks to reconnect with her childhood memories after her father’s death in a plane crash. In the process, she is reminded of her dead father’s old friend (Denzongpa), who operated a bioscope show that Mini loved as a child. She begins an attempt to unravel the mystery of the whereabouts of the bioscopewala’s daughter in war-torn Afghanistan. “I’ll put every waking moment trying to find out what happened to the man who is such an important part of my life,” Mini declares in the trailer.

The cast includes Adil Hussain and Tisca Chopra. Bioscopewala will be released on May 25.

Tagore’s Kabuliwala narrates the story of a Pashtun dry fruit merchant who befriends a five-year-old girl in Kolkata because she reminds him of his own daughter living in Kabul. Kabuliwala has been previously adapted into films in Bengali (1957) and Hindi (1961). The story also featured in the television series Stories by Rabindranath Tagore (2015), which was aired on Epic Channel.
