It was a good start for most of the Indian tennis players playing on the Challenger and Futures circuit this week. Here is a look at all the results involving Indians this week.
Women’s
India’s top two women singles players are in action at the $60,000 ITF event in Luan, China.
Ankita Raina, the third seed, beat Ao Gai 6-1, 7-6(6) to reach second round at the hard -court event. She will play Guo Hanyu in the next match. In the doubles, she and her partner Harriet Dart, seeded third, beat Nika Kukharchuk and Emily Webley-Smith 6-4,6-3 to reach the quarter-finals.
Fifth seed Karman Kaur Thandi beat Xu Liu Sun 6-3, 6-2 to reach second round as well. She also partnered with Hanyu Guo to beat Yi Yuan and Wanning Zhu 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the quarters in the doubles.
At $15,000 ITF event in Hua Hin, Thailand, all Indian women in action lost in the first round of the singles.
Natasha Palha lost to third seed Nudnida Luangnam 2-6, 3- 6, Ramya Natarajan lost to Yi Tsen Cho 2-6, 6-4, 1-6, Sowjanya Bavisetti lost to Chang Liu 1-6, 2-6, while Zeel Desai lost to Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-2, 7-5, 1-6.
In the doubles, Palha partnered Kwan Yau Ng to beat Maree Teiwa Casey and India’s Avika Sagwal 6-4, 6-3, while Natarajan and Ho Ching Wu beat Lorraine Guillermo and Alexandra Walters 6-3, 6-2.
At the $25,000 ITF event in Monzon, Spain, Pranjala Yadlapalli reached the second round after a tough 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(6) win over Yana Sizikova.
At the $15,000 ITF event in Cairo, Muskan Gupta beat Saumya Vig 6-0, 6-0.
Men’s
At the ATP Karshi Challenger in Uzbekistan, Sasi Kumar Mukund continued his good run of form stunning second seed Nikola Milojevic 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 a day after beating Sanjar Fayziev 4-6,6-2,7-6(4) and reach the second round. He had made it to the main draw after three rounds of qualification matches. N Vijay Sundar Prashanth and Sidharth Rawat were also in the qualification but didn’t go through.
In the doubles, N Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan beat Elgin and Nedovyesov 6-3 ,7-5 to reach the quarter-final.
At the Braga Open Challenger in Portugal, Sumit Nagal stumbled to a 0-6 4-6 loss to Spaniard Sergio Guiterrez Ferrol in the first round of the clay-court event.
At the Egypt F17 Futures, Alex Marti Pujolras beat Manish Sureshkumar 7-5, 6-4 in the singles.
In the doubles, Tarun Anirudh Chilakalapudi and Vignesh Peranamallur beat Alan Bzarov and Pratheek Mandalapu 6-1, 6-1, while Jeff Guerrero and Nicolas Xiviller beat Anton Magnusson and Gokul Suresh 6-3, 6-2 and Marco Bortolotti and Nicolo Turchetti beat Prithvi Sekhar and Sureshkumar 6-4, 6-3.
At the Uganda F2 Futures, Kunal Anand beat Arturs Lazdins 6-1, 6-2, SD Prajwal Dev beat sixth seed Goran Markovic 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 and Jayesh Pungliya beat Shalva Dzhanashiya 7-5, 6-1.
At the Vietnam F2 Futures, Nitin Kumar Sinha got a walk over when Yuichi Ito retired at 4-6, 6-2, 2-0, while Kelsey Stevenson beat Abhinav Sanjeev Shanmugam 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3 and Sung Nam upset second seed Karunuday Singh 6-4, 6-3.
