The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested three people on Tuesday for allegedly trying to secure seats for some candidates in medical colleges by using fraudulent means to clear the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, which was held on May 6.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohit Kumar of Khurja district in Uttar Pradesh, Manoj Kumar Sikka of Ludhiana in Punjab, and Ashwani Tomar of Akruti Education in West New Delhi, DNA reported. The CBI has registered a case against them based on a complaint by the Central Board of Secondary Education, which conducts the NEET exam for admission to medical and dental colleges in India.
“Searches were conducted on the residential and official premises of the accused across the country, leading to the recovery of incriminating documents, including original educational certificates, admit cards of NEET exam, blank cheques, rubber stamps of educational institutions and others things,” CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said.
The first information report says that Kumar was a tout who lured students and their parents on the promise of helping them clear NEET, The Hindu reported. Kumar collaborated with Ashwani and Arti Tomar, who run an agency for NEET candidates in Delhi’s West Patel Nagar. Sikka, who owns a NEET consultancy agency in Ludhiana, was also in touch with Kumar, the FIR said.
The arrests come in the wake of the leak in April of question papers for the In April, the CBSE Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics papers had leaked exams.
