A Tripura State Rifles soldier shot dead his wife and two children before killing himself in the state capital Agartala on Tuesday, reported PTI. This incident comes two days after a Border Security Force soldier shot dead three colleagues before killing himself at a border outpost at Magurulli in the state’s Unakoti district.
The Tripura State Rifles soldier, Manik Ghosh, was a wireless operator and had not been assigned a weapon, reported NDTV. An unidentified police official said Ghosh stole the weapon from the barracks.
Superintendent of Police (Control) Harkumar Debbarma told PTI that Ghosh and his wife had a fight around 8 am on Tuesday. “Locals rushed to their home after hearing the gunshots and found them [the family] dead,” Debbarma said. “The villagers then informed police.”
Senior police officer Ajit Pratap Singh told NDTV that the motive behind the shooting had not yet been confirmed. “Locals claimed the jawan suffered from anxiety.”
