The Indian Railways said on Wednesday it had fined a vending contractor Rs 1 lakh after a video showed a vendor using water from train toilets to prepare tea and coffee.
In a statement on Twitter on Wednesday, South Central Railway said its inquiry had found that the incident took place on the Chennai Central-Hyderabad Charminar Express in December. In the video, the vendor is seen coming out of a train toilet with beverage cans.
After the inquiry, the authorities found that the vendor was employed with P Sivaprasad, a contractor for the section between Secunderabad and Kazipet. “Stringent action” has been taken against him and the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation has levied a penalty on him, South Central Railway said.
Two other people seen in the video were unauthorised hawkers, the statement said.
