The Bihar Police has stayed the transfer of an official who was seen in a video purportedly firing nine shots into the air during a farewell party on Tuesday night, ANI reported.
Last week, the government had accepted the request of Siddharth Mohan Jain, the superintendent of police of Katihar district, to move to the Central Bureau of Investigation in Delhi. He was among dozens of police officers and bureaucrats who were given transfer orders on April 28.
Katihar District Magistrate Mithilesh Mishra, who had also got a transfer order, was present at the function too, The Hindu reported. Mishra has been appointed inspector general (prisons) in Patna.
In a video of the farewell party, Mishra is seen singing a popular Bollywood song, while Jain and several other officers are seen dancing and celebrating. Suddenly, Jain took out his pistol and started firing celebratory shots into the air.
“This is unacceptable,” Additional Director General of Police SK Singhal told ANI. “We will investigate the matter and take strict action against him. His central posting has also been stayed till then.”
