“This country is not the land of your fantasies. The fantasy is just in your head,” Adil Hussain’s Jamil tells Meghla (Paoli Dam) in the trailer for Leena Gangopadhyay and Saibal Banerjee’s upcoming Bengali film Maati.
The movie narrates the journey of Dam’s Meghla, who goes back to her ancestral home in Dhaka years after her grandmother’s death. The Partition of 1947, which led to widespread displacement and migration, emerges as a theme in Meghla’s quest to know her roots.
Maati also stars Shankar Chakroborty, Laboni Sarkar and Chandan Sen. The release date for the film is yet to be finalised.
