The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Nalini Chidambaram, wife of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, PTI reported on Monday. The agency has summoned her in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.
Nalini Chidambaram, a senior lawyer, is believed to have been paid Rs 1 crore as legal fees appearing in court in a controversial television channel purchase case. The directorate has summoned her before in connection with the Saradha case, which she had claimed is politically motivated.
Enforcement Directorate officials told PTI that Chidambaram was summoned so her statement could be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Last week, Chidambaram had filed a petition in the Madras High Court against the summons, which the court rejected.
Sudipto Sen, the former chairman of Saradha who is the main accused in the case, is currently in jail. The scam was worth around Rs 2,000 crore.
