Bharatiya Janata Party National President Amit Shah on Monday called Congress President Rahul Gandhi “double-faced” for meeting Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
Shah said Gandhi had torn up an ordinance the United Progressive Alliance brought in in 2013 to save Yadav, but had now met the leader, who has been convicted in several fodder scam-related cases. The 2013 ordinance was intended to prevent convicted legislators from being disqualified.
“As the 2019 General Elections approach, Congress seems to believe it cannot win without Lalu Yadav,” Shah said at a rally in poll-bound Karnataka’s Kolar region. “Rahul Gandhi has met Yadav today and wants to join hands to form a government.”
“This exposes Gandhi’s duplicity,” Shah added. “Such hypocrites cannot run a non-corrupt government in Karnataka.”
Gandhi had met Yadav at AIIMS before the RJD chief was discharged to be taken to the Ranchi Medical College, much against his wishes. Yadav claimed there was a “conspiracy” to weaken his health as there were “no facilities” at the Ranchi hospital.
The Karnataka elections will be held on May 12, and the results announced on May 15.
