Twelve people were killed when their vehicle rammed into a truck parked on the roadside in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri area on Saturday morning, the police told PTI.
Seventeen people were in the mini van when the accident took place on National Highway-24. The injured have been taken to a hospital.
The accident took place at 6 am as the driver of the speeding van dozed off, an unidentified police officer told IANS. Superintendent of Police S Channappa added that the van was overloaded also.
Chief Minister Adityanath ordered the district administration to ensure proper treatment to the injured.
This is the second road accident in the state this week. On Thursday, 13 children died when their school van collided with a train at an unmanned railway crossing in Kushinagar.
