Security forces said they gunned down eight suspected Naxalitess in an encounter in Bijapur, ANI reported on Friday. The encounter site is on the border with Telangana.
The Telangana Police’s anti-Naxalite unit and Chhattisgarh security personnel conducted a joint combing operation after receiving inputs about Maoist presence in the area, PTI reported. Gunfire broke out when the security forces reached Ipenta, an unidentified official said. Security officials have reportedly recovered several weapons from the site.
Friday’s encounter comes days after the killing of 39 suspected Naxals in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli. On Tuesday, security forces claimed they had recovered the bodies of 15 more Naxalites killed in the encounter with police commandos and Central Reserve Police Force personnel two days earlier. The police said that they found the bodies on the banks of the Indravati.
