A special Central Bureau of Investigation court in Delhi on Friday found Gondwana Ispat Ltd and its director guilty in a coal block allocation scam, reported PTI. They were convicted of cheating and criminal conspiracy to get a coal block in Maharashtra.
The quantum of sentence will be announced at 2 pm on Friday. However, the firm’s director, Ashok Daga, will be taken into custody, said special CBI Judge Bharat Parashar.
The firm was allocated the Majra coal block in 2003. A first information report was filed against it in 2014. The firm and its director were accused of misrepresenting facts to get the coal block.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has been probing allocation of coal fields between 1993 and 2010. The allocations had come under the scanner in August 2012, when Comptroller and Auditor General of India submitted a report saying there had been a notional loss of Rs 1.86 trillion due to wrongful allotments of coal blocks.
