The Election Commission on Thursday announced that bye-polls in Uttar Pradesh’s Kairana, Maharashtra’s Bhandara-Gondiya and Palghar, and Nagaland for four Lok Sabha seats will be held on May 28. The counting will be held on May 31.
The Kairana seat fell vacant after BJP leader Hukum Singh died in February. An election for the Bhandara-Gondiya seat became necessary after Nana Patole resigned from the BJP to join the Congress. The death of BJP legislator Chintaman Wangaya left the Palghar seat vacant. In Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio selection as chief minister led to his resignation as a Lok Sabha member.
A notification on the matter will be issued on May, a spokesperson said.
