A government department in Andhra Pradesh uploaded online the Aadhaar data of 89 lakh workers employed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, cybersecurity researcher Srinivas Kodali alleged on Thursday.
The Andhra Pradesh Benefit Disbursement Portal, which is maintained by APOnline – a joint venture between Tata Consultancy Services and the state government – has now masked the Aadhaar numbers on its publicly available databases, Kodali tweeted.
He tweeted a screenshot of the redacted documents. The screenshot showed a table with data sorted in columns such as name, job card number and Aadhaar number.
Kodali said he had reported the matter to security agencies. “Little has changed,”Medianama quoted him as saying. “We did not have a way to report these data leaks then, we don’t have one now. Security agencies are not really the answer. This isn’t a hack or breach or an attack on a government website, it is the government itself putting out data that it shouldn’t be making public.”
This comes two days after he flagged a similar breach, which revealed that another Andhra Pradesh government department had put the Aadhaar data of over 1.34 lakh citizens online, along with information about their caste and religion.
