Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli, on Thursday, was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his side’s Indian Premier League match against Chennai Super Kings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The hosts had put on board a challenging 205/8 but riding on MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 34-ball 70, Chennai overhauled the formidable target with two balls to spare.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh,” an IPL press release said.

It was noted that as of April 24, with the completion of 23 matches, only two have ended on or before the stipulated end time. For the 18 matches that ended over-time without a rain delay, the average duration played beyond the stipulated 200 minutes is 18.67 minutes.
