The Madras High Court on Wednesday asked Apollo Hospitals in Chennai to inform it by Thursday if it had preserved the biological samples of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, PTI reported. The samples were collected when she admitted to the hospital in 2016.
The court was hearing a petition filed by S Amrutha, who claims to be Jayalalithaa’s daughter. Amrutha had approached the High Court asking for a DNA test to prove that she was indeed the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader’s biological daughter, IANS reported.
She claimed that she had been given up for adoption to Jayalalithaa’s sister and her husband decades ago, and that her foster father told her about it in March before he died.
Justice S Vaidyanathan, while asking for the information from the hospital in a day, set the next date of hearing in the case on June 4.
Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital on September 22, 2016. She died on December 5 that year.
