If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then cherry blossom trees around Japan must be feeling very good about themselves these days. Because a few weeks ago, LEGOLAND Japan, a theme park in Nagoya, celebrated its first anniversary, as well as spring-time in Japan, by creating a life-sized cherry blossom tree out of nothing but LEGO bricks.
The 14-feet-tall sakura tree – a little over 14-feet, in fact – was constructed using 881,470 plastic blocks at the LEGO factory in Czech Republic, where expert builders spent 6,700 hours assembling the tree. The tree, which weighs 3,333-kg, was transported and assembled at the theme park just in time for cherry blossom season, as you see in the video above.
The impressive tree was built solely out of LEGO bricks, including the lanterns, which light up at night, and even earned a Guinness World Record for largest LEGO cherry blossom tree. Right now, the tree is in the Miniland section of the theme park. Unfortunately, even though it is a fake plastic tree, people can only view it until May 6, when the blistering heat of summer hits Japan.
