At least 32 Chinese tourists and four locals died after a tour bus fell off a bridge in North Korea’s North Hwanghae province on Sunday night. Two Chinese nationals were seriously injured and are in a critical condition, Reuters reported.
Footage from Chinese state broadcaster CCTV showed the mangled remains of the bus, and rescue workers helping the injured get to hospital, according to AP.
Local reports said several Chinese diplomats had reached the scene of the accident, but no details were immediately available.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang told reporters he could not give out details of the accident as an investigation was underway. About 80% of all foreign visitors to North Korea are Chinese tourists, Reuters quoted a study by South Korean think-tank Korea Maritime Institute as saying.
