Karthik Subbaraj’s dialogue-free thriller Mercury will be the first release across Tamil Nadu on April 20 after film producers called off their strike earlier this week. Subbaraj’s film was released on April 13 in other states, and will be out in Tamil Nadu on April 20.
Film producers had called a strike on March 1 to protest against the virtual print fee rate charged on the digital distribution of films through multiplexes and single screens. An embargo was imposed on new releases and film shootings were suspended. The strike ended on April 17 after meetings with theatre owners and digital service providerss. Apart from a reduction in the virtual print fee by digital service provider Qube for 1k cinemas, the two parties reportedly also discussed computerised ticketing and flexible ticket pricing.
Mercury stars Prabhudeva, Sanath Reddy, Deepak Paramesh, Indhuja and Remya Nambeesan. A group of hearing- and speech-impaired youngsters gather for a reunion at a hill station. They accidentally run over and kill a man (Prabhudeva). The incident takes place in a region where a fatal leak had taken place at a mercury plant many years ago.
