At least 21 people died after the mini-truck they were travelling in fell off a bridge over the Sone river in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district on Tuesday night. The vehicle plunged about 70 feet before crashing into the dry river bed, PTI reported.
Reports said all the victims were part of a marriage party and that the casualties could go up as several others were still trapped inside the vehicle. Sidhi District Collector Dilip Kumar confirmed the toll to DNA and said at least 14 injured people have been taken to the hospital for treatment. Kumar said the accident took place on the Jogdaha bridge.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the government will give Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the dead, and Rs 50,000 each to the injured, PTI reported.
