A 19-year-old woman and her 15-year-old sister were found shot dead in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district in the early hours of Tuesday, PTI reported. The two had reportedly gone to a field near their house in the middle of the night to relieve themselves, the police said.
“At present, we are questioning the girls’ family to find out if they had enmity with anyone, which probably could be the reason behind the teenagers’ murder,” police officer Vinay Diwakar told The Times of India.
The girls’ father said his family was on good terms with everyone in the village. “We do not have any enmity with anyone in the village,” he said. “We cannot understand why anybody would kill my daughters and that too in such a gruesome manner.”
Senior Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Tripathi told news agency that the police had recovered a liquor bottle from the crime scene. The police have sent the bodies for autopsy to ascertain if the sisters had been sexually assaulted.
