The Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly raping and murdering a seven-year-old girl in Etah district.
The 19-year-old, identified as Sonu Yadav, took the girl away from her parents, who were busy during a wedding, to a building under construction nearby, where he allegedly raped her, the Hindustan Times reported. A search party found her body at the scene of the crime around 1 am on Tuesday.
The Times of India quoted an unidentified official as saying the girl was found unconscious “in a semi-naked condition with strangulation marks on her neck” and blood stains on her abdomen. Superintendent of Etah Police Akhilesh Chaurasia said her body has been sent for an autopsy.
Yadav, whose father provided tents for the wedding, has been booked for rape and murder under the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
