The police in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur have filed a case against a man for allegedly hanging his wife from the ceiling of their house, beating her up and sending a video of the assault to her parents, as they could not meet his dowry demands, PTI reported.
The woman’s father registered a complaint on Monday, and told the police that his daughter was beaten up two days earlier. The woman was brought back to her parent’s house, Circle Officer Sunil Kumar Shukla said. In the video, the husband is seen beating his wife with a belt, as he threatens to continue torturing her till she meets his dowry demand of Rs 50,000, Shukla added.
The man had earlier asked the family for the money he spent on the delivery of their child at a hospital, The Times of India reported. “My daughter is extremely scared after her husband beat her,” the father told the daily. “She still has sleepless nights remembering the assault.”
Additional superintendent of police (city) Dinesh Tripathi told the paper, “We have registered an FIR against the husband in this case and investigation is on.”
