The Haryana Police on Sunday found the decomposed body of a girl in a drain in Rohtak’s Titauli village on Sunday, ANI reported. The body, with a hand missing, had been stuffed in a green bag. The police said the girl must have died at least five days ago.
“She could be nine or 10. It looks like her hand was attacked by an animal,” Investigating Officer Devi Singh said. “We are waiting for the autopsy report.”
But another police officer said the girl could have been murdered and her body disposed of in the canal, NDTV reported. A case has been registered against unidentified persons.
The Surat Police last week found the body of an 11-year-old girl with 86 injuries at a cricket ground in the Bhestan area. An autopsy report suggests that the child was raped and tortured over eight days before she was strangled to death.
People across the country have been protesting after an eight-year-old girl was kidnapped, repeatedly raped, tortured and killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district in January. Two Bharatiya Janata Party ministers in the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet had attended a rally in support of the accused, sparking outrage.
