The body of a two-day old baby was found flushed down a toilet in Kerala’s Palakkad district on Friday. The body was found with the placenta still intact after plumbers were called in to unclog a commode, The NewsMinute reported on Saturday.

Dr Abdul Rehman, who runs a clinic next to his house in Perinthalmanna town, called the plumbers after his domestic worker noticed the clog and what she believed was muddy water. However, the police said it was actually blood from when they believe the mother delivered the baby in the toilet.

“There wasn’t much of a foul smell emanating from the toilet,” a sub-inspector of the Nattukal Police Station told The NewsMinute. “The body hadn’t decomposed when we recovered it. But the baby’s placenta was intact, and there was blood inside the commode.”

The baby’s body has been sent to a medical college in Thrissur for an autopsy, NDTV reported. The police are checking the records of all patients who visited the clinic around the time of birth. On the basis of Dr Rehman’s complaint, the police have registered a case of unnatural death.
