At least 12 people were injured after five coaches of the Katni-Chaupan passenger train derailed on Saturday night between the Salhna and Piparia Kalan stations in Madhya Pradesh, ANI reported.
The train derailed around 10 pm, 30 km away from the Katni railway station, Railway Protection Force Inspector Virendra Singh told PTI. It is unclear what caused the derailment. The Chief Public Relations Officer of the West Central Railways, Gunjan Gupta, confirmed the accident.
Most of the injured passengers were in the train’s general compartment. “We were sleeping when the train derailed,” a passenger Surendra Sahu told The Times of India. “The train was moving at a slow speed, so not many were injured.”
