A 21-year-old student of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, was found dead inside his hostel room in the early hours of Friday. The police said the deceased, who hailed from West Bengal, was found hanging from one of the ceiling fans, three days after an earlier attempt to kill himself, The Times of India reported.
A police team took the man to a hospital but doctors declared him brought dead. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Milind Dumbere said that the student had attempted suicide on Tuesday by consuming sleeping pills, but failed. He was found unconscious and shifted to Safdarjung Hospital. After he was discharged, his brother began to live with him.
A one-page suicide note was found on him after the attempted suicide, The Hindu reported. The daily said the student accused two of his cousins of sexually abusing him when he was a child. “He told this to his elder brother about three weeks ago but he didn’t take it seriously,” an unidentified friend of the deceased told the newspaper.
The police are inquiring into the student’s death.
