Prime Minister Narendra Modi caused a bit of a surprise when he took the Delhi metro on Friday from an underground station near his official residence.
Surrounded by Special Protection Group commandos, Modi boarded the metro from the Lok Kalyan Marg station to make his way to Alipur Road for the opening of a memorial dedicated to BR Ambedkar, the architect of the constitution.
Predictably, there were many selfie moments.
As more photographs of his train ride made their way to social media, it was inevitable for Twitter to find humour in the situation.
It started with a simple request.
Entries came in fast.
From playful jokes about Modi’s favourite opening line in public rallies
To angst of Delhi metro commuters.
Inevitably, there were references to the outrage over Modi’s silence on the rapes in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua and Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao as well.
Political commentary and wishful thinking was another theme.
