Saudi Arabia’s air defence forces intercepted a ballistic missile over Riyadh on Wednesday, Reuters reported, quoting state media. They also stopped a drone targeting the city of Jazan bordering Yemen, Al Arabiya reported.
In March, a civilian was killed in Riyadh after Saudi Arabian defence forces shot down seven missiles that Houthi rebels in Yemen had fired at locations in the kingdom. In recent months, Houthi rebels have fired several missiles into Saudi Arabian territory.
A Saudi Arabia-led coalition has been backing Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi in his battle against Houthi rebel forces since March 2015. Thousands have died and millions have have been displaced in Yemen since the coalition got involved in the country’s civil war.
