Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested that the Centre initiate measures to counter violence in the state, PTI reported. Mufti asked that the central government find ways to address alienation among the state’s youth, a spokesperson said.
The chief minister reteirated her demand for increased meetings between high-level officials from India and Pakistan to deescalate the tensions along the border. “She also favoured the idea that the two Army commands be in touch to minimise tensions across the borders in the state which has affected people living in these areas,” the spokesperson said.
Mufti said people had faced many hardships as a result of the violence in the past three decades. She requested that the Centre consider improving travel across the border by opening more routes along the Line of Control.
She urged for the development of Sharda Peeth, an abandoned temple in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, on par with other ancient centres of learning such as Nalanda in India and Takshila in Pakistan.
