Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district filed a case against four people on Sunday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against BR Ambedkar on Facebook, PTI reported.
The four men – Durgesh Pandey, Ankesh Pandey, Ritesh and Tej Narain – were also booked for assaulting a Dalit youth in Reoti town of the district, police said.
Police filed the First Information Report under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Information Technology Act and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. The case was based on a complaint by Shiv Prakash Paswan, who the four men had allegedly assaulted.
The alleged incident came just a day after the right hand, leg and head of a statue of Ambedkar was damaged in Thedwari village of Ballia district, NDTV reported. Police had deployed additional forces after the incident led to tension in the village.
