Flight operations will be affected at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Monday and Tuesday as the main runway will remain shut for six hours from 11 am for pre-monsoon maintenance work.
The airport authorities have directed passengers to check with their airlines to confirm their flight schedules.
The Mumbai airport, which is the second busiest in the country, has two runways. While the primary runway can handle up to 48 arrivals and departures every hour, the secondary runway can handle about 35 flights, PTI reported.
Mumbai’s airport and roads often develop potholes during the monsoon, leading to severe flight disruptions and traffic jams. Last year, the runway was not functional for many hours on at least two different days because of potholes.
