One civilian died after a fire broke out on the 50th floor of the Trump Tower in New York on Saturday. Four firefighters were also injured, reported Reuters.

The 67-year-old man was found “unconscious and unresponsive” at the scene of the fire, said the New York Police. He was declared dead after being taken to Mount Sinai Roosevelt Hospital.

Smoke started billowing from the skyscraper around 6 pm (3.30 am IST). The New York City Fire Department said the blaze was now under control. The roads around the building were cordoned off as tourists gathered to try and take pictures of the fire.

“This was a very difficult fire,” said Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro. “As you can imagine, the apartment is quite large, we are 50 stories up. The rest of the building had a considerable amount of smoke.”

US President Donald Trump has a penthouse and an office in the building. He, however, is currently in Washington, reported BBC. Trump and his son Eric thanked the fire department for their response.
