The police on Saturday arrested a Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Hanumanganj in Bhopal for allegedly inciting violence that broke out during the nationwide strike by Dalits on April 2, ANI reported.
The police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to Gajraj Jatav’s arrest, News 18 reported.
The police also arrested four people in Gwalior on charges of inciting violence through social media posts. A case was registered against them under the Information Technology Act, ANI reported. “Several organisations and people had been given money to incite violence in Bhind and Morena,” Inspector General (Law and Order) Makrand Deuskar said.
The Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday arrested Bahujan Samaj Party’s Muzaffarnagar district president Kamal Gautam and former Hapur MLA Dharmpal Singh’s son Manish Singh for their alleged role in the violence that broke out during the protests.
Dalit organisations had called the protests against a Supreme Court judgment that now requires preliminary inquiry to be conducted before booking public servants under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Nine people – including six in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena, Gwalior and Bhind districts – died in the protests.
