An Indian Army helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district on Friday because of a technical problem. No injuries have been reported.
The IA 2123 chopper with four crew members was travelling from Bengaluru to Chennai for a Defence Expo. It landed in Kulithigai village near Madhanur block.
“The four-member crew including Lieutenant Colonel Akshay Khalia and Major Puneet were flying from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Bengaluru to Chennai,” Vellore Superintendent of Police P Pakalavan told The Hindu. “A team of three formations were coming from HAL to Chennai to take part in the Defence Expo when this helicopter developed a technical snag.”
He said the helicopter landed safely around 1 pm after finding a large barren tract of land in Vellore. Another helicopter carrying spare parts and recovery support was flown in to attend to the technical problem, PTI reported.
