The Rajasthan Police on Wednesday arrested three people for allegedly vandalising a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in the state’s Rajsamand district. The accused were identified as Kuldeep Valmiki, Arvind Valmiki and Ankit Gehlot, PTI reported.
The trio had vandalised the statue in Nathdwara area on Monday, the police said. “All three were arrested on the basis of the footage of a CCTV camera installed near the statue,” Rajsamand Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar said. “A resident of the colony had complained in the matter after which a case was registered against unidentified people.”
This was the latest in a spate of attacks across the country on statues of Lenin, Periyar, BR Ambedkar, Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
