Five Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Serendaag jungle of Jharkhand’s Latehar district on Wednesday, PTI reported.
Superintendent of Police Prashant Anand said that the gunfight between the rebels and a joint team of the district police and the Central Reserve Police Force was still on. The security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the Maoists, including three AK-47 rifles, he added.
The police said they were tipped off about the movement of the rebel squads led by Maoist leaders Shivlal Yadav and Shrawan Yadav, the Hindustan Times reported.
“The search operation is on to retrieve dead bodies,” the Deputy Inspector General of Police of Palamu range, Bipul Shukla, said. “Two bodies have been retrieved.” The identity of the rebels who were killed has not been ascertained yet.
