At least five people were killed and one injured in a fire at a bakery in Lahore’s Barkat Market on Tuesday, Geo News reported.
The fire spread to offices on other floors of the eight-storey building where the bakery is located. Fire department officials have now brought the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. The five people, one of whom was a minor, died after inhaling smoke after they were trapped in the bakery, rescue officials said. There were no safety measures such as fire alarms or emergency exits at the building, according to police.
The injured were taken to Jinnah Hospital.
The police took the building’s owner into custody.
