The Election Commission on Monday announced it will conduct biennial polls in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh for 24 seats of the states’ upper houses on April 26.
The Legislative Council is elected by the Members of the Legislative Assembly. In Uttar Pradesh, the terms of 13 Legislative Council members, including that of former chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, end on May 5.
In Bihar, the terms of 11 members of the Legislative Council, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi’s, end on May 6.
One of the Bihar seats had fallen vacant after the disqualification of Narendra Singh, on January 6, 2016.
The poll panel said the votes will be counted on the same day.
