A special police officer was killed and his wife injured after suspected militants entered their home in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday evening, PTI reported.
While Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh died on the spot, his wife Fareeda was taken to hospital. She is reportedly in critical condition, according to Greater Kashmir.
The incident took place in Bijbehara town of the district, a police official said.
Meanwhile, an exchange of fire between security forces and suspected militants was reported in Shopian district. The militants fired on a patrolling party of the Army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles unit on Thursday evening after which the soldiers retaliated, a police official told PTI.
The security forces then cordoned off the area and began a search operation to find the militants.
In Kulgam, a civilian was injured in his leg after suspected militants fired at him. He was taken to a hospital.
