A massive fire broke out at a chemical factory in the town of Malur in Karnataka’s Kolar district on Thursday morning. Though initial reports suggested that the factory’s 50 employees were trapped inside, they were soon rescued, The News Minute reported. There were no casualties.
“The fire spread to the pipes where petroleum products were being transported,” the Malur police told the news website. “Soon, it reached the neighbouring Sri Rama Plywood and Sainatha Steel factories. About 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and 50 to 60 firefighters have been deployed.” The first team of firefighters reached the spot at 10.35 am.
Local media reports claimed that a cylinder explosion caused the fire. The district Superintendent of Police Lokesh Kumar told The News Minute that the cause of fire can be determined only after forensic experts conduct their investigation.
