The Delhi Police have arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly sexually harassing a crew member on a Vistara airlines flight, The Hindu reported on Wednesday. The crew member had complained that the man tried to touch her inappropriately several times during the journey, and did so again while exiting the aircraft at the Delhi airport.
The alleged incident took place on a Lucknow-Delhi flight on March 24. The police booked Rajeev Dani under Section 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code. A magistrate later granted him bail.
“She [The air hostess] said that during the flight, the man had tried to touch her several times but she ignored him, but when he did the same again at the exit gate, she reported the matter to senior crew members and the man was detained by security staff,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Delhi airport) Sanjay Bhatia said. “He was later handed over to IGI [Indira Gandhi International Airport] police staff.”
The airline said it was “fully committed” to cooperating with investigating authorities, ANI reported. “Vistara does not tolerate abusive or unruly behaviour by passengers that puts the safety of its staff and other customers at risk, or compromises their dignity,” it said in a statement.
