A faction of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to oppose Shashank Manohar’s reelection as International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman and the ICC’s idea to make the Champions Trophy as a T20I tournament, The Times of India reported on Wednesday.
This faction, reportedly led by former BCCI President N Srinivasan, met last Saturday to discuss the working of the Committee of Administrators (CoA).
Former BCCI President Manohar’s term as the ICC Chairman ends in June 2018 and according to the report, all the members of the BCCI have unanimously decided that they will object to their former colleague’s re-election.
“Manohar will quit if he realises he doesn’t have the support,” the report quoted a source.
The Srinivasan-led faction is also irked by ICC’s decision to pass a draft proposal to change the format of the Champions Trophy.
“That will not happen. ICC touches the tournament and all hell will break loose,” the report quoted two anonymous BCCI members.
