India’s Muskan Bhanwala won her first and India’s fourth inidvidual gold medal at the International Shooting Federation Junior World Cup in Sydney on Wednesday. The 16-year-old finished on top in the 25m pistol women junior event with a total score of 35.
China’s Qin Sihang won the silver while Thailand’s 16-year-old Kanyakorn Hirunphoem bagged bronze to complete the podium.
Bhanwala had finished fourth at last year’s ISSF Junior World Championship in Suhl , Germany. But she shot forth for gold after taking the lead in the sixth round, with a perfect 5-hit series.
There were three other Indians in the fray in the final, with 16-year-old Manu Bhaker finishing fourth position with 18 hits while 18-year-old Arunima Gaur finished seventh.
India dominated the team event as well, with Bhaker, Muskan and Devanshi Rana winning gold while Mahima Turhi Agrawal and Tanu Rawal securing silver. Thailand’s Hirunphoem, Viramon Kidarn and Luxciga Srinitivoravong won the bronze.
India currently leads the medal tally with 22 medals with nine golds, five silver and eight bronze medals.
