Kerala’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau submitted a chargesheet against former minister and senior Congress leader K Babu on Tuesday, ANI reported. The bureau submitted the chargesheet in connection with a 2016 disproportionate assets case at the Vigilance court in in Muvattupuzha.
The bureau’s investigation found that 45% of the former minister’s wealth was illegally amassed, The News Minute quoted the bureau’s report as saying. Babu had filed a complaint with the bureau, claiming that his statement was not recorded before the chargesheet was filed.
Babu was the excise minister in the previous United Democratic Front government in the state in 2016. He had submitted his resignation from his ministerial post after the vigilance court had ordered the registration of a first information report against him in a bribery case. Babu withdrew his resignation within a week of its submission while stating that he was “an obedient party worker”.
